Go check out this wonderful site, whatsthatbug.com. It's got gorgeous pics, lively bug banter, and scads of info. Be sure to click on the link for "Carnage."
I spent a LOT of time, when the boys were little, carrying Kleenex and a magnifying lens around...
I didn't want the neighboring city kids to be afraid of bugs, but rather, to be fascinated. [I'd lovingly wrap the dead ones in the tissue to peruse at leisure]
That's a cool website, but I'm not a bug fan, sorry to say. I'm still trying to cope with the trauma of finding a (life) cicada in my bed when I was 10.
Oh good lord. "Ring-legged earwig" is gonna have me up all night.
The good thing is, Junie Moon doesn't know it's bad to kill the bugs, and she doesn't understand English. I lectured her about unnecessary carnage and showed her the pictures and she said Yum! I likes bugs.

Chaya, you and me gotta go bug-huntin' one of these days.
Mary, did you see the explanation from the site's owners that it's actually an art project? Does that make you like it any better?
Renee, Junie's righteous. As long as you eat what you kill, it's okay.
