Daniel Wallace's new novel
If you're looking for a good vacation read, I'd highly recommend Mr. Sebastian and the Negro Magician, a nifty little novel from the author of Big Fish. It's not exactly an intellectual workout, but it won't make you feel like you've been pigging out on literary Peeps. Click over to the Nashville Scene to see my review.

You do good work, girl.
I might just be tempted to read this, after I bludgeon myself with my usual hardcore Russian summer suffering...
Really, Maria.
I think it's criminal that so many talented folk can barely feed themselves, if they relied solely upon their bliss.
It sucks wet dog balls.
Well, yeah--but at least one is blissfully sucking wet dog balls. BTW, Nio wants to know why you say "sucking wet dog balls" like it's a bad thing...
Nio, beloved, that's a very good question.
It harkens from the same wellspring of eternal idiocy that whelped "love you like cheese"...
[In other words, I dunno]
Thank you for the review. I will look for this one. Have you ever read anything by Perceival Everett? I think you might like him. Here's a link to one of his novels: http://www.amazon.com/Suder-Percival-L-Everett/dp/0670681105
Chay - I am adding "sucks wet dog balls" and "love you like cheese" to my vocabulary immediately.
Nice review, as usual. Was Big Fish made into a movie by the way? I think my daughter recommend I see it.
Thank you for directing us to this. I did like Big Fish a lot and something light doesn't always mean fluff, right?
@Mary:
yes, Big Fish was turned into a very sweet and tender movie by Tim Burton. You ought to see it, your daughter is right!
Re the movie--it stars Ewan MacGregor, so how can you go wrong? I should rent it myself.
