Ashley Gilbertson

Gilbertson is an Australian-born photographer who has been working in Iraq throughout the war. He did a great interview on Fresh Air yesterday, but if you don't have time to listen to that, go check out his article (with photos) in The Virginia Quarterly Review. Powerful stuff.

Amazing, blood-curdling, thought-provoking photographs and an interesting interview. I've become so increasingly despondent over this stupid war, I can barely stand to read about it anymore. But sometimes, you just have to.

I know what you mean, Mary. It's sickening, but we can't turn away.

Never as an American have I felt so powerless over the actions of my government. Bush's unbridled use of our military is despotic.

Hi Maria, after that interview & those photos I swear I wanted to scream and weep at the same time. Bush and the war both literally sicken me. The subject leaves me in despair.

Welcome, Bozo. Sometimes I look with hope toward Bush's departure...and sometimes not.

Besotted--it's so good to see you here, though I feel a slight pang about subjecting everybody to this post (and the previous one, for that matter.) But at least we all know we're of one mind about this. That's evidence of something good, surely.

If you want to heal a wound...
You HAVE to express the pus.

Not pretty.
Necessary.

Thanks, Chaya. Love the analogy. Bush & Co.=a spreading boil on humanity. God help us lance the bastards. 'Scuse my language.

Maria,

I only see this now. I featured it on my blog too, today. I need to find your mail address. Meanwhile, I immediately will link here. I'm still clogged, I suppose.

Hi, Lou--it's nice to see you here. I'm so glad you put the Gilbertson up, too. Everyone should see it.

(I am tempted to say something about great minds thinking alike, but modesty prevents me ;-)
