The day has gotten away from me

...so a new post will have to wait until tomorrow. Meanwhile, click here to read JoAnn Wypijewski's latest column in The Nation, all about the phony crisis of teen sexting. JW says it brilliantly, as always.

You mean, teenagers have sex? *GASP*

What's funny about this story is that I'd heard about this case, but halfway blocked it out because I thought it was stupid, so I completely missed the fact that it all happened in the school district next to where I grew up. Oh, Greensburg, Pennsylvania ... That actually explains a lot. My friends and I once almost got arrested for hanging around a playground after sunset, talking (no drugs or alcohol were even involved ... that time, anyway). The police there just don't have enough to do, so they make up crimes to prosecute.

This whole business comes under the heading of what I call The Creeping Criminalization of Everything. It boggles the mind.

"A bill in the Massachusetts Legislature proposes to criminalize nude pictures of people over 60 and people who are disabled, for their own protection." Patronizing as all hell, aren't they? My 76-year-old mother and 82-year-old stepfather would eat them alive.

Ha! Same for my mom. I can just hear her: "You'll take my camera when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands."

Seriously, I am still trying to get over that bit about one of the girls being told to explain "how this affects the victim." Who is the victim here?
