"The river is famous to the fish"

The river is famous to the fish.

The loud voice is famous to silence,
which knew it would inherit the earth
before anybody said so.

The cat sleeping on the fence is famous to the birds
watching him from the birdhouse.

The tear is famous, briefly, to the cheek.

From "Famous" by Naomi Shihab Nye

Two finches, Song Dynasty, c.12th century

Have you ever read Dogen? I was going to recommend a particular translation, but then found this blog entry about the "mountains and rivers sutra" that you may enjoy: http://exileonthegenesee.wordpress.com/
I haven' even read the entire thing myself. . .

I haven't read Dogen, but now I'm very intrigued. I bookmarked that online translation the blog links to, so I can return to it--Thanks!
