Joe Bageant explains the underclass

"Armchair sociologist that I am, I have a theory about this: Millions of American women are in poverty because they are paid poverty wages. I could be wrong, I often am, but there seems to be a connection between poverty and money. "

That's a snippet of wisdom from Joe Bageant at full throttle in this column from Counterpunch. I encourage you to click over and read the whole thing. Warning: JB is a radical, not a liberal. If you adore Obama, Bageant will annoy you. That's the point.

  1. Thanks for the link. As I just came home from a job that pays well for retail, am dead tired, and am contemplating how exhausted I'll be when if I start working full-time at a job that I had to go to school for that pays the same amount. . .um. Tiredness has rendered me kinda dumb, too.

  2. Nobody could accuse Bageant of cheering up his readers--funny though he is. I am still dumbstruck by the $19/hr housekeeping job in Australia. Maybe we should emigrate...

  3. Seems like it goes along with the book Methland that just came out and has been all over NPR.

  4. I'm curious about that book. It gets very mixed reader reviews at Amazon.
