What a wonderful start for the weekend. What is this from? "There is something viola-like about the rich graininess of her singing..."-- so true and so tragic.
And Chayaruchama, I didn't realize you were a singer. I'd love to hear you sometime.
And while I'm at it, am I wrong or is "Amadeus" the most unfair movie of all time. I understand the play, and the movie's music and photography are sublime, but anyone who hears this aria and sees the portait of Mozart knows that the movie is drastically off the mark.
I'm sorry, Chaya--I did know about your connection with LHL, but I didn't think about it when I posted the clip. I was just so taken with her performance of the aria. At least she left the world a little piece of herself with her great recordings.
You, know, E, I have never seen this opera, and I'm pretty sure we don't have a recording. (Do we, Dave?) I would love to get a chance to go to a performance. Glad you enjoyed the clip.
Chaya is a wonderful, passionate singer, Bozo. We would certainly be lucky if she'd grace us with a performance.
Don't people mostly complain that "Amadeus" is unfair to Salieri? You're right, though, I don't see how the real Mozart could have been the hysterical fool portrayed in the movie.

Don't make me cry, Gracie.
I've just slowed down, on the teartrain.
You KNOW our history, don't you ?
We sang together, for Goldovsky.
And, she was a dear friend / neighbor's godchild...
The king of Crete is keeping us good company on this cloudy Friday. Have a great weekend, honey!

Oh, I see, it's from "Idomeneo."
