One Sentence Perfume Review: Private Collection (1973), Estée Lauder

Hey Chaya--I do like PC, really I do. But there's just a tang of wang in there that I could do without.

I sometimes read reviews of Private Collection and wonder if the reviewer has actually smelled the same fragrance I have.
I have the same experience. I know lots of people who call PC a "powdery" green. I can't imagine anything less powdery than PC. I'm clearly missing something they're getting, or vice versa.
I wonder if the different experiences with Private Collection are related to vintage. My fairly-old bottle of PC is very sweet and ambery - the green notes are definitely there, but I can see how someone would call it powdery. So after its been on my skin for a while, its all about the warm, amber notes. I rarely see other reviewers talking about that.
I don't hear a lot of complaints about the old ELs being tweaked, but of course that might be the issue. It may also be that this particular juice just softens with age.
Also, there's the question of different wearers being sensitive to different notes. The note in PC that troubles me is a sort of "dirty hair" note--possibly costus? Whatever it is, it creates a hurdle to loving this scent, which by all rights should be a favorite of mine.
