A friend just emailed me also saying I gave myself too much credit for misanthropy. I think I just felt as if I was raining on the parade by giving a lukewarm review to such a "feel-good" book.
That was a lot less misanthropic than you led me to believe. Looks like a political backbone got sucked out somewhere.

TIB is one of the most inane things NPR has ever done. BG hit all the right words-- "vapid", etc.-- in the review.
